Square

Acrylic, detergent, and pencil on Fabriano paper
12,5 x 18 cm

Works on paper exploring the varied personalities of the square. ’Square’ is a word that holds a double meaning: it is at once a noun and a verb. A square is a space-defining element; to square is an act of regulation. These works consist of drawings restricted to this single form—the square—exploring the varied expressions one may discover under such stringent limitations. They impersonate both meanings of the word at once, resulting in straightforward compositions that act as optics that direct one’s gaze inwards—into the structure itself, or into oneself.
